Funeral services for Samuel Evans, age 78, of Crawfordsville, brother of Hulda Holt of Veedersburg, who died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville, were held at 2.p.m. Saturday at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home there. The Rev. John Servies officiated and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Evans, who suffered a heart attack on Tuesday, March 15, farmed in the Smartsburg area, east of Crawfordsville from 1933 until his retirement in 1961. Prior to that he operated a meat market and grocery at Linden for 19 years. He was a member of the Smartsburg Christian Church. He was born Nov. 22, 1887, near Linden, the son of William Henry and Amanda Ellen Langford Evans. He was married twice, first on Feb. 12, 1914, to Mary Okah Grove, who preceded him in death Oct. 20, 1928. His second marriage was on Jan. 1, 1932, to Mina Davidson, who survives. He was graduated from Linden High School and attended Purdue University. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: three sons, Grove of Darlington, Samuel D. of Morris, Minn., and Max L. of Paoli; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Holt.   -– jlr
